Last years team at the UK finals with England women's cricket captain Charlotte Edwards.
Cricket club will be starting again on Thursday 12th May 2011. It will run after school every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:15 for years 4, 5 and 6.
Following the success of the cricket team at the recent area cricket competition, the team went on to play in the County final where they beat teams from across Wrexham. In some close games, the team managed to win the County title for the third time in three years. As winners they will be going to Cardiff to see the first days play in the Ashes match between England and Australia. on Wednesday 8th July.
As winners of the County title they then went on to play in the North Wales final which was held at St. Asaph Cricket club against teams from across North Wales. Once again they were victorious, and so qualified for the Welsh final which was once again held at Aberystwyth Cricket club, as it was last year. Last year we came runners up to the home team, losing by a few runs.
This year saw the team qualifying for the final, once again against the home team. in a very closely fought game, it came down to the final over when, with a six and a few singles before losing another wicket, we came out winners by two runs. This means that the school will be represented at the forthcoming UK final to be held at Headingly on Thursday 16th July. A big thank you must go to Mr. Hamilton for his hard work in coaching the children assisted by Mr. Clayton Jones. The Chairperson of Governors, Mr. Robert Willis, has been drafted in to be the ‘bus driver’ to both the Welsh finals and the forthcoming trip to Cardiff.
However, the biggest congratulations should go to the children for competing so successfully this year. Well done to all of you and good luck at Headingly.
